What is Petrichor?
Petrichor /ˈpeˌtrīkôr/ is the official word for that lovely smell after the rain. That unforgettable scent is made possible due to the rain itself, plants releasing their aromatic compounds, and organic microorganisms. This synthesis of water, air, and earth is the most naturally occuring and most literal form of aromatherapy. Not only does petrichor smell amazing, but thanks to the precipitation in the basin, Tahoe and all of its inhabitants (cellular to mammalian) is made possible.
Why “petrichor” for an herbal skincare company?
Those same aromatic compounds released into the air after rain are the same compounds we extract from plants, then used in our products. Since we distill our own essential oils from plants of the Reno/Tahoe basin, we are able to capture those lovely desert and forest aromas.
Scientific approach
There is a lot of knowledge and power behind the energetics of plants, but Tahoe Petrichor is about taking a scientific approach. You will find a lot of first-hand research throughout because this isn not just a natural product company, this is herbal therapeutics. Herbal extracts made by an herbalist: We do not just buy natural ingredients, we hand make therapeutic herbal extracts! We like to see the plant, feel the plant, extract the plant, and combine them to create practical healing ingredients. We like to infuse our oils, distill our essential oils, and make our own herbal extracts using raw herbs.
Keeping it sustainable: We value Tahoe and respect the environment. Locally sourced, sustainably harvested herbs reduce carbon footprint and utilize 100% chemical-free, all-natural, wild-grown plants. We preserve the plant ecosystem by harvesting using practices that promote regeneration rather than destruction. We give back by donating our time to reforestation and conservation efforts. Our packaging is as eco-friendly as we can be - the standard Rollie contains biodegradable packaging, glass instead of plastic where we can.
petrichor purpose
Tahoe Petrichor was created to connect people to plants, and particularly, the plants of the Reno/Tahoe Basin. From Native medicine to conventional pharmaceuticals, species of native conifers (pine, fir, juniper, and cedar), wildflowers, and desert shrubs have been used and studied for medicinal purposes. As an herbalist and a born and raised local, it has become my duty to share plant knowledge by offering therapeutic products inspired by my hometown.
